I just went out for another coffee run. My rear end kicked out at the slightest turn in the snow. It would have been fun had it not been snowing hard and dark out.
PS- Dont worry, I wasnt driving drowsy. I took a nap earlier
PS PS- When I got up my steep driveway to park when I got home, I thought I had a CEL. Turns out My engine just quietly died and the dash lit up like a christmas tree, as per the norm following a stall. I dont think the 4.0 likes being on a hill in the cold very much.

Yep, my old '92 was perfect with 4. My current Sierra needs 6.

Even with more bags, don't get your hopes up. You're still gonna lose traction and it will go oppo on you.

I use thermoplastic Heras fencing feet for a bit of extra weight over the rear axle when off-roading. Don't know what they're called stateside but at 18kg each with built in handles they're fairly easy to chuck in and they stay put. 3 of them fit snugly side by side in the Landy.

You should start making coffee at home. Buy a French Press.

I'll get you some sand from the beach when I'm there on the weekend.
Skippy and his mates will help.

I was driving a 93 ranger RWD 4.0 5 speed XLT. On Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS tires

Well theres a fine line between fun and being upside down in a snow bank. All my counter steer reflexes are for FWD. I have to re-teach myself to counter steer in the opposite direction. Im quickly learning RWD is a complete other beast

My dad's 88 Ranger was content with two 5 gal buckets of sand.

I found something heavier and less meddy than sand bags. Concrete sidewalk cement blocks.

Granted, I did regularly drove it in the winter through the Canadian Rockies across the Continental Divide . This is not the kind of place where you want to mess around and save $8. The truck is mine, the train isn't:

I honestly found that running with LESS weight in the bed of my Comanche made things better. Shifting the centre of mass further back by adding weight over the rear axle made the back end want to come around more. Getting sideways was always more of a concern than getting moving.
The thing I did that helped the most though was getting rid of the BFG K/O's (all-season all-terrains) and picking up some General Grabber AT2's (snow-peak all-terrains). The difference was night and day. The Grabber is a much more modern and altogether better tire, and it really shows. I barely used 4x4 on snowy roads after doing that.

Bad? It's just kata's.
"Pull to the left, to the left to the left. Now pull to the right, to the right, Right! Lift the right ankle, lift, lift, pull to the left, Left!"
Goes like that, continuously. No yoga pant clad person coaching you, tho.
